Alex Sotelo, a LAM member, came to California in 1991 at the age of 18 searching for the American dream. When he arrived to the Napa Valley he knew something amazing was going to happen. Back then he knew nothing about grape growing or winemaking; he only knew he needed to work 80 hours a week in the vineyard to be able to survive.
Life was not easy coming to a new place and having to mature rapidly. Not speaking English or knowing what is around you takes quite some energy and time. Alex came to the States, got into College for English, Arts, Viticulture and Winemaking. He fully understood the importance of education to succeed.
The 12 years Alex spent making and caring for the Robert Pecota Winery wines gave him the courage to launch Alex Sotelo Cellars in 2002. Alex’s focus is to make the best wines possible to his own palate being appreciated and consume mainly by wine connoisseurs, collectors and distinguish people including presidents and celebrities.
Now he is involved in many non-profit organizations to promote education among his own community plus encourage young people to become professionals and entrepreneurs.
Alex recently was nomininated for a Latino Business Leadership Award, presented by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco. He will be celebrating with all of us at Independencia!
His philosophy is to be a better person every day by improving what he does and still be a happy person.
