Who We Need: Harder+Company seeks a Spanish bilingual Research Assistant in its San Francisco office to provide support on a diverse array of team-based research projects.  The Research Assistant will be responsible for literature reviews; planning and assisting with focus groups; conducting interviews; entering, coding, and analyzing data; administering surveys; and assisting with the preparation and editing of reports.  Some travel within California necessary.  The ideal candidate would contribute to the diversity of Harder+Company and enjoy contributing to the effectiveness of organizations working for social change.

Position Responsibilities:

• Assist with quantitative and qualitative primary data collection including interviews, focus groups, case studies, and surveys. May include assisting with the facilitation of focus groups.

• Enter data, prepare and label SPSS data files for analysis and reporting. Analyze survey data, including frequencies, cross-tabulations, means tables, and tests of statistical significance.

• Assist with preparation of reports and presentations, including write-ups, editing, tables, charts, and formatting.

• Bilingual in Spanish required, including the ability to translate and conduct interviews in Spanish
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field

Building Community
The Casa Manager is responsible for creating a residence environment in which all views, popular and unpopular, can be voiced and heard respectfully. The Casa Manager is expected to do the following:
• Help establish community norms and ground rules to ensure open communication and responsible student conduct.
• Plan and facilitate house meetings designed to promote discussions about cultural background, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, race, class, gender, and other issues.

Administrative Responsibilities
The Manager is expected to complete the following administrative tasks in a timely and efficient manner:
• Participate fully in the opening and closing of the residence.
• Check in regularly–usually once a week–with supervising staff (such as the Executive Director.)
• Distribute monthly billing statements to Casa residents, create receipts for payments received, and deposit checks.
• Attend and participate in bi-monthly Greenlining Staff meetings.

Encouraging Our Network
The House Manager holds the special role of bringing together the residents of Casa with the staff of Greenlining. S/he is responsible for encouraging a support network that extends from the house, to campus, to Greenlining, and beyond. The House Manager is expected to:
• Outreach to Berkeley student organizations and other potential applicants.
• Identify opportunities to integrate the work of Greenlining staff into House Meetings.
• Motivate Greenlining staff to visit the house, and residents to visit the office.

This job is demanding, and requires common sense, warmth, humor, and the ability to work independently, responsibly and efficiently. We seek someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills, which includes a knack for making students and applicants feel listened to and taken care of, whether in person or on the phone. Bondi is Argentine slang for bus. And urban buses, with their loud radios, have been key players in the propagation of cumbia music and other kitsch expressions of low-brow pop culture throughout the continent.

This singular bondi is driven by Argentine-born and Bay Area resident DJ Juan Data who himself, paradoxically, can’t really drive. At age 35 he’s never been behind the wheel of a motorized vehicle (bicycle is his main means of transportation, occasionally he takes the local music-free buses too) but he has spent the last ten years on the ‘wheels of steel’ mixing all kinds of music appealing to the most diverse crowds.

Bondi Blaster is then the latest incarnation of DJ and renown music journalist Juan Data as a producer of sample-based music in a style that he calls ‘cumbia linyera’ (linyera is Argentine vernacular for garbage pickers). In this new outfit, conjured in association with Dub Snakkr and with the collaboration of a handful of friends, Juan Data mixes all his heterogeneous influences going from cumbia to rap, from electronica to Brazilian pop, from funk to Andean folk, all with an irreverent punk attitude and put together through the cut-and-paste traditions of hip-hop culture. Now get on the bus and start dancing!

LO’ JUIMO!

¡Lo’ Juimo! Is the title of Bondi Blaster’s debut EP, consisting of five original songs and a handful of remixes, alternative versions andinstrumentals. The title references the classic Colombian cumbia album by Corraleros del Majagual, ¡Nos Fuimos! (meaning let’s go!)
