Viva Diversity Fundraising Event

September 20, 2009 in Philanthropy by LAM

The goal of ViVa Diversity is to teach kids about the diversity of people’s backgrounds and circumstances and why is it important for this to be appreciated and valued. The cultural diversity of the United States is truly magnificent, as many different ethnic and cultural groups have contributed to the social, economic and cultural values of the society. Unfortunately, kids are still experiencing discomfort in embracing their heritage.

The perception of discrimination is present even in elementary schools. Viva Diversity will let kids know that diversity is not only beautiful but necessary for the world to work.

Studies have found that teens who maintained strong ties to their Latino culture performed better at school and adjusted more easily socially.

MY AMERICAS PROJECT

An Adventure into the Heart and Soul of Latin America

Roberto and Leticia, each born in Mexico but raised in the U.S. set out to discover their Latin roots. Viva Diversity will donate “My America” video sets to public schools for them to integrate them as part of their cultural programs. With this videos the kids will take a journey to Mexico, Guatemala, Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Cuba on a sort of pilgrimage with the young hosts Roberto and Leticia, to discover the deeply rooted cultural, historical and spiritual traditions of these extraordinary countries.

They will explore their sacred sites, celebrations, processions, food, music, dress, local festivals and fiestas.

(Complete set: 13 total episodes, 24 minutes each. Two DVD set, 300+ minutes. ENG.)

My Americas Project’s goal is to provide one complete set of DVDs to 20 public schools around the Bay Area with the highest Hispanic/Latino student population.

Please join LAM and HMB to help start this program! We need to raise funds to be able to buy and give the documentary 6 DVD set to 20 elementary schools in the Bay Area.

Come enjoy a big party and help us make a change in the history of Latinos. If you are not interested in the party you can always donate here Viva Diversity
